We want to develop conference tourism capabilities not only in Budapest, but also in the countryside, as Debrecen, Pécs and Szeged also have good opportunities, and Hungary is famous for its public safety and good price-value ratio – stated Csaba Latorcai, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration and Regional Development, in his welcoming speech at the Rendezvény ReStart conference on Tuesday.

The State Secretary emphasized that conference tourism has long-term growth potential in terms of both gross domestic product (GDP) and job creation.

“There are opportunities even for small settlements, but obviously not for the largest-volume international conferences. At the same time, we see serious synergy between event organization and regional development, of which the presentation of local values is an essential part,”

– said Csaba Latorcai. He added that in terms of conference tourism, Hungary’s goal is to be among the top three destinations in the region, and to achieve this, the government is open to all strategic partnerships, but the international campaigns implemented by the Hungarian Tourism Agency in recent years are needed, “because without strong marketing and promotion, we cannot exploit our potential even with the best foundations.”

“The modernization of infrastructure is necessary not only in Budapest, but also in the countryside, and we are confident that we will be able to manage seasonal fluctuations with joint efforts. Expanding professional training is essential, and our good partners in this are higher education and vocational training institutions,”

– he said.

Csaba Latorcai emphasized that restructuring Budapest’s capacity is very important, as it is essential to expand and develop the number and proportion of quality hotel beds compared to AirBnB. In connection with this, he said that according to the latest data, the supply of hotel beds worldwide has increased by about four percent.
