Márton Nagy: there is a boom in tourism in Hungary
There is a boom in tourism in Hungary, never before have so many people vacationed domestically and never before have so many foreign tourists visited Hungary as this year, said the Minister of National Economy.
Márton Nagy announced that in June-August, more than ever before, almost 7 million tourists arrived at Hungarian accommodation throughout the country, which is a 9 percent increase compared to last year’s outstanding result. The number of guest nights increased by 3 percent to almost 18 million.
The Minister of National Economy called the airport the gateway to Hungary and, within that, Budapest, whose passenger traffic reached 11.5 million by August, and by the end of the year it seems that it may reach 17.5 million, thus exceeding the peak of 2019 by more than 1 million. data.
The good performance of the airport is also proved by the cargo turnover, which will reach 270 million tons by the end of the year, partly due to the influence of e-commerce in Hungary, he said.
He added that most foreign tourists came to Hungary by plane via the United Kingdom, as well as from Italy, Germany, Spain and Switzerland.
In connection with this, he noted that passenger traffic at Liszt Ferenc Airport increased by 16.3 percent in the first half of 2024, and with this rate of expansion, Budapest ranks second in Europe after Rome.”Budapest is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe,” said Márton Nagy.
