Márton Nagy is satisfied: the price of eggs decreased by 22 percent, flour by 19.6 percent, dairy products by 11.6 percent, and dry pasta by 10.6 percent compared to the same period last year
Inflation brought down to a low level by the government is good for families and good for the economy as well – stated Minister of National Economy Márton Nagy in his Monday commentary evaluating the May inflation data.
The announcement of the Ministry of National Economy (NGM) refers to the latest data of the Central Statistical Office (KSH), according to which the rate of inflation reached 4 percent on an annual basis in May 2024, i.e., as in previous months, it continues to reach a low level. Compared to April, prices decreased minimally in May, inflation was 0.1 percent compared to April.
Among the May data, it was called remarkable that within the food product group, the price of eggs decreased by 22 percent, flour by 19.6 percent, dairy products by 11.6 percent, and dry pasta by 10.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Household energy became cheaper by 2.4 percent, including piped gas by 4.7 percent, and electric energy by 2.9 percent.
The significant reduction in the price of basic foodstuffs and household energy is a major help for Hungarian families, they pointed out.
