Future belongs to triticale
The man-bred grain, the triticale, combines the qualities of wheat and rye – agrarszektor.hu wrote. The crop can be grown in economically in poorer soil quality areas and has high yield potential and resistance, so people rely on it for feed primarily. According to a research, however, there is a great expectation for the plant in human nutrition.
The challenges of climate change, deteriorating soil quality and limited-scale production encourage plant breeders to create new, more robust grains – the K&H Bank Zrt wrote in its communication. The name of triticale derives from the combination of the Latin names of wheat (triticum) and rye (secale), which can be more economically grown, compared to other cereals and combines the good qualities of its parents (agrarszektor.hu)
