István Nagy: the pig sector has received further assistance
The pig sector has received further targeted assistance, in recent days 500 sow farmers have received almost 1 billion forints in support – István Nagy said in a video message uploaded to his social media page on Wednesday.
The economic difficulties have not spared breeding sow farmers either, demand has decreased, the market has become uncertain, and animal diseases are also making the situation of farmers more difficult – the Minister of Agriculture justified the payments, which represent direct assistance of 20 thousand forints per breeding sow. This income replacement support contributes to farmers getting through the difficult period and maintaining their operations – he emphasized.
The Minister added that the government is also strengthening financial stability
Pig farmers can take advantage of the loan moratorium, and interest-free and cost-free loans also help the operation of farms. There are currently no EU funds that can be quickly and effectively mobilized to deal with similar extraordinary situations, so the Ministry of Agriculture (MA) has initiated a temporary increase in the amount of small subsidies for the sector’s players at the European Commission. Preserving the stability and competitiveness of the pig sector is in everyone’s interest, because it ensures the continuity of the domestic pork supply in the long term. Pig farmers can therefore always count on the national government, even in the midst of challenges – said István Nagy.
