István Nagy: agricultural enterprises affected by foot-and-mouth disease will receive further assistance
The government is creating an opportunity for farmers affected by foot-and-mouth disease to receive financial support from the Wage Guarantee Fund, announced István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture, in a statement sent to MTI by the Ministry of Agriculture on Saturday.

The Minister drew attention to the fact that the appearance of the foot-and-mouth disease virus in livestock – due to its extremely high contagiousness and rapid spread – has serious economic consequences. In this situation, the government is providing assistance to farmers, both to ease their burdens due to the loss of production and to preserve the jobs of those working on livestock farms – he emphasized. He noted that agricultural enterprises affected by the infection can also receive funds from the Wage Guarantee Fund in order to mitigate their losses. This opportunity will contribute to the fact that farming can resume as soon as possible after the animals have been eliminated and the necessary disinfection tasks have been completed on the farms affected by the infection, the minister emphasized.
István Nagy also mentioned that the damage assessment is in progress in the compensation procedure for the already liquidated Kisbajcs farm
The state compensation system covers the damage caused to farms due to the reported diseases to a significant extent from the agricultural damage mitigation fund. The costs related to the elimination of the infection – such as the killing of animals, the disposal of animal carcasses, the purchase of necessary equipment and tools, the destruction of infected materials and disinfection – are covered by the Hungarian budget. The government is providing all human and financial resources to stop the virus, but at the same time the cooperation of livestock keepers is also necessary: official regulations must be complied with – the minister emphasized in the ministry’s statement.
