The Hungarian State Treasury has started paying out the 2025 agricultural compensation benefits, so almost all affected farmers have now received the funds due to them. This means that almost 16,000 producers will receive a total of 45.4 billion forints in compensation benefits – announced István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture, in a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture (AM) on Friday.

The Minister highlighted that the agricultural compensation system has been part of the new agricultural support cycle, the Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan, since last year, and thus the compensation contribution paid by producers includes EU funds in addition to domestic funds, which amounts to 9.6 billion forints for the 2025 compensation year. The government’s commitment to farmers is also demonstrated by the fact that it will provide additional resources of 18.5 billion forints this year, in addition to the originally planned 7.7 billion forints, thanks to which the damage mitigation benefits determined by the treasury will be paid in full to all those affected, he added.

István Nagy highlighted that agricultural damage mitigation is one of the most important pillars of the agricultural risk management system

This effectively contributes to the security of domestic agricultural production and the preservation of the financial stability of farmers, even despite increasingly frequent extreme weather events. This significant resource now disbursed helps to maintain the solvency of farmers and preserve the operational capacity of farms. He also mentioned that in last year’s damage mitigation year, the most serious damage was caused by drought, for which 37.4 billion forints of compensation will be allocated. The spring frost also caused significant damage, the compensation for which is 8.5 billion forints, of which 1.5 billion forints were already paid earlier, as an advance payment. The area affected by the damage mitigation payment exceeded 360 thousand hectares nationwide, the minister said.
