Nagy István: honey production should be encouraged
Around 20,000 bee-keeping families, 1.2 million bee colonies are living in Hungary. About 20-25,000 tonnes of honey are produced a year in the country.
Honey production needs to be stimulated with measures and subsidies – Nagy István, Minister of Agriculture said at a press conference opening the autumn promotion campaign for honey in Budapest.
The minister emphasized that the new Hungarian apiculture national program, approved by the EU, will allow more than 20 percent extra support for the next three years, with a combined domestic and EU funding of nearly 6 billion HUF. In addition, Hungarian beekeepers will receive an income replacement allowance of 500 HUF per bee colony this year, raising it to 1,000 HUF next year. (Világgazdaság)
