Nagy István: Hungarian honey should be packed domestically
Hungarian honey intended for export has to be bottled in Hungary, because without packaging, foreign plants use it to repair low-quality honey from the Far East – Nagy István Minister of Agriculture told Kossuth Rádió on Wednesday.
He emphasized that the Hungarian producers have lost significant revenues due to the lack of packaging. He added, however, that there is a lack of honey in Europe, while Hungarian production is excessing domestic consumption by 15 to 20 thousand tons a year, and therefore, as he pointed out, export opportunities are excellent. The minister also urged that domestic honey consumption should be increased by at least 1.5-fold in the short term. (MTI)
