István Nagy: the countryside is the driving force for the renewal of the Hungarian economy
The Hungarian government sees the economic power of the countryside as a driving force in the renewal of the Hungarian economy, the Minister of Agriculture stated on Saturday at Bihartorda in Hajdú-Bihar.
At the handover of the new cattle farm of the local Ezüstkalász-2000 Kft., István Nagy said that 2,900 billion forints are available for the modernization of the farm until 2027, which is unique in Europe. According to the head of the ministry, this sum, of which HUF 600 billion is European Union support and HUF 2,300 is national funding, is three times the amount so far, which will be used to create the Hungarian agriculture of the 21st century. He added: until now, Hungarian agriculture had a big disadvantage that it mainly produced raw materials. In the future, with technological modernization, precision farming, with as much added value as possible, with as much processing as possible, it will be possible to produce better quality products and achieve the highest possible income for the farmers – he listed. According to István Nagy, all this contributes to the fact that those who live in the countryside live in a quality environment and find their calculations where they were born.
The Minister of Agriculture also touched on tenders, which have “three legs”
The first is support for the smallest children, where no deductible is required, 15,000 euros, about six million forints, can be awarded, the only condition being that the supported activity must be continued for five years. The second is support for small family businesses, where the upper limit is HUF 200 million and a 50 percent deductible is required. The “third leg” is the tender financing of export-capable large farms, where the upper limit is five billion forints – István Nagy explained, adding that new tenders will be issued for the amount of HUF 200 billion, small family farms can apply for HUF 50 billion, and large enterprises can apply for HUF 150 billion. As an innovation, it is being introduced that the deductible should only be added last: 20 percent of the funds for billion-dollar projects and 50 percent of the smaller ones will be paid as an advance, so that the developments can start as soon as possible, and in the meantime, the management of the bank loans needed for the deductible becomes smoother, the head of the ministry pointed out. Another innovation – he added – is that tenders will be announced continuously until the end of the year, and all 64 tender opportunities will be published this year.
Ferenc Kiss, the managing director of Ezüstkalász-2000 Kft., indicated that they have implemented an investment worth 2.5 billion forints in their farm with almost 1.2 billion forints of support won in a tender. During the investment, HUF two billion were spent on building and technology development, and HUF five hundred million on mechanical procurement, he added, mentioning that, among other things, a 500-seat cowshed equipped with robot technology was built.
