In Hungary, game management and hunting based on ecological knowledge prioritizes the preservation of biodiversity, increased protection of habitats, quality regulation instead of a quantitative approach, and sustainable and professional management, said István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture, at the opening of the 32nd International Weapons, Fishing, Hunting Exhibition at Hungexpó on Thursday.

The Minister emphasized at the event that Hungarian game management and hunting are an Eastern and Western heritage, a world-renowned Hungarian heritage, and a special value that we must preserve and further develop. The goal is to make the approach of sustainable management known to as wide a circle as possible, especially to future generations. In shaping attitudes, it remains a priority task to draw attention to the importance of nature management, the preservation of traditional hunting methods, and the diversity of our hunting culture, he added.

Regarding the results, the minister said that in 2024-2025, we utilized 328 thousand big game animals and a total of 559 thousand hares and pheasants in 1451 hunting areas. 72,800 trophies were judged in the hunting year. Within this, the proportion of game species shows stability. Roe deer antlers were in first place with 56 percent, and red deer antlers were in second place with 31 percent. István Nagy said in connection with the legislation related to hunting and game management that the new provisions enable a new game management and hunting activity that is better and more firmly established in practical life. In addition, they help the quality development of domestic game management, the professional work of professional hunters and the activities of nature-loving sport hunters. Nature provides us with wonders, and it is our responsibility to maintain the balance and pass it on to future generations. The 32nd FeHoVa exhibition provides a great opportunity for this, emphasized the head of the Ministry of Agriculture.
