Big food price rises to come, due to the rain
The fruit and vegetable prices may increase significantly, due to the rainy weather. The watermelon yield is in serious danger, there will be no shortage – but prices will increase.
A significant increase is expected up to 50-100 percent in cases of strawberries, cherries, and peaches. The apples may be an exception, because it was overproducted in recent years. "In the case of vegetables a moderate, 20-30 percent price increse is expected, but the price will depend on the further destructions of the stormy weather" – said Görög Zoltán, Plant Protection Specialist. He declared, that watermelon is in the worst situation; huge part of the crop was destroyed – reports Origo.
