The fruit and vegetable prices may increase significantly, due to the rainy weather. The watermelon yield is in serious danger, there will be no shortage – but prices will increase.
A significant increase is expected up to 50-100 percent in cases of strawberries, cherries, and peaches. The apples may be an exception, because it was overproducted in recent years. "In the case of vegetables a moderate, 20-30 percent price increse is expected, but the price will depend on the further destructions of the stormy weather" – said Görög Zoltán, Plant Protection Specialist. He declared, that watermelon is in the worst situation; huge part of the crop was destroyed – reports Origo.
