With the support of Active Hungary, the Hungarian Water Tour Association (MAVITUSZ) is launching a national water tour series called Water Ring, which aims to build on the success of the Balaton rowing trip and allow sports and nature lovers to participate in similar community rowing trips in other water areas of the country, the Active and Ecotourism Development Center told MTI on Friday.

The Water Ring is a ten-stop, exciting challenge series, in which nine events are organized by MAVITUSZ, and the tenth – as is already well known – by the Hungarian Kayak-Canoe Association: this is the Balaton rowing trip, which will take place on July 12 this year.

The aim of the tour series is to make rowing more widely available, and to make as many water areas as possible part of adventure tourism and active recreation.

According to the statement, Máriusz Révész, the State Secretary responsible for Active Hungary, said that

the series of events is open to everyone: those who have inflatable kayaks, canoes, SUPs, or even their own watercraft can come – the main thing is to paddle together, experiencing movement and closeness to nature as an experience.

He expressed his hope that with these ten Water Ring events, the number of those who enjoy water tourism will be significantly increased, and a similar boom will follow as in recent years with running events. To this end, they will not only develop the infrastructure and shape the legislation, but they will also launch a previously unseen series of events that will provide a real experience for those interested – he added.

Krisztina Farkas-Nagy, spokesperson for MAVITUSZ and coordinator of the Water Ring, said that at least 400 people are expected at each location. All participants will receive a registration package, and those participating in the performance tours will receive a medal – depending on the number of participants. Refreshments and snacks will be provided at the refreshment points, and a commemorative plaque awaits participants at each event.
