Murony is the home of the first Knorr Model Farm
Unilever and Knorr created their first Model Farm in Murony, in Békés County. The programme is implemented on the land of local onion farmer Imre Bodnár. The farm’s sustainability is audits are conducted in accordance with the rules of the Unilever Sustainable Agriculture Code: a farm or production facility is considered sustainable if it meets at least 85 percent of criteria. Unilever managing director András Gyenes told that sustainable production methods are of paramount importance in ensuring the high quality of Unilever products, and the company wishes to propagate the using of these cutting-edge methods through their controlled Model Farms in every region. Hungarian workers produce excellent quality onion at the 5-hecatere Murony farm. It is in Gorzsa in Csongrád County where onion is prepared for processing, which is done in Unilever’s Röszke factory. The results of farmers producing at Knorr Model Farms are regularly compared with the relevant indicators. Unilever’s long-term goal is to acquire 100 percent of the ingredients they use from sustainable sources by 2020.
