Continente Participates In EU-Led Project To Find Plastic Alternatives
Portuguese food retailer Continente has announced that is participating in an EU co-funded project that aims to find an alternative to plastics in packaging.
Co-funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme, YPACK will create biodegradable and compostable packaging with greater food preservation capacity, that will also contribute to reducing food waste.
Other Portuguese participants in the consortium include the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory, the University of Minho, and the New University of Lisbon.
Continente is the only Portuguese food retailer to take part in the YPACK project. YPACK’s efforts will result in the introduction of a new type of biodegradable packaging that keeps food fresh and safe for a longer period.
