MTÜ: never before have so many people vacationed in Hungary as this year
Never before have so many people vacationed in Hungary than this year: in the first two hundred days of the year, the number of tourists increased by nearly 12 percent, and the number of guest nights by nearly 8 percent over last year, the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ) told MTI on Thursday.
According to the data of the National Tourist Information Center (NTAK), from the beginning of January to the middle of the summer, more than 8.8 million guests arrived at Hungarian accommodation, where they spent 21.3 million guest nights.
Even a month since the start of the school holidays brought stronger tourism results than the previous year: in these short thirty days, the turnover of accommodation approached 6 million guest nights, exceeding the value of a year ago by around 7 percent, while international traffic increased by 11 percent.
It was announced that by July 18 this year, almost 19 percent more foreign guests had arrived in Hungary, and 6 percent more domestic guests were relaxing away from home. The proportion of guest nights was balanced: international guests spent 10.7 million guest nights, while domestic guests spent 10.6 million guest nights in Hungarian accommodation, which values also exceed the indicators of the previous year.
According to the information, the capital city accounted for 37 percent of the accommodation traffic based on the data. The 8 million guest nights in Budapest are 13 percent more than the turnover of the first two hundred days of 2023, within which the number of foreign guest nights increased by almost 15 percent, reaching 6.7 million.
