MTÜ: the performance of Hungarian tourism in 2022 exceeded all expectations
The performance of Hungarian tourism in 2022 exceeded all expectations; the sector is still on an upward trajectory, so the sector’s performance this year may exceed the results achieved in the record year of 2019 – said Zoltán Guller, chairman of the board of the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ), at a press conference in Budapest on Monday.
He said that last year 14.2 million guests spent almost 40 million guest nights in Hungary, which is almost a 40 percent increase compared to 2021 and only 5 percent less than the 2019 level.
In 2022, the sales revenue of the hotels amounted to HUF 668 billion, which is 52 percent higher than the previous year, even if adjusted for inflation.
Sales revenue in the hospitality industry increased by 42 percent annually to HUF 1,490 billion in 2022. In real terms, this amount exceeds the 2021 data by 24 percent.
