MTÜ: the regulation of short-term apartment rentals only affects Budapest
Only Budapest is affected by the regulation of short-term apartment rentals – emphasizes the Hungarian Tourism Agency in its statement sent to MTI on Tuesday.
“The comprehensive regulation of short-term housing rentals, including the two-year moratorium on registration and the adjustment and increase of the itemized flat tax to income, only affects Budapest, it will not affect rural Hungary, neither now nor in the future”
– László Könnyid, CEO of MTÜ, summarized the territorial scope of the package of measures in the announcement.
Based on his description, 14.2 million guest nights were registered in Budapest in 2023 at the National Tourist Information Center.
By the end of September this year, 11.7 million guest nights were generated in the capital. According to the 2023 total, Siófok registered 1,117,497 guest nights, Hajdúszoboszló 1,111,620, and Hévíz 1,068,724 guest nights, far short of the 2 million guest night limit.
