MTÜ: Kecskemét, Visegrád, Szeged, Debrecen and Eger are the most popular rural conference locations
The Hungarian capital is one of Europe’s most popular business tourism destinations, but demand is increasing outside of Budapest as well, especially during the spring and autumn peak periods, the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ) concluded in its analysis published on Tuesday.
In May of this year, for example, in Debrecen (+9 percent) and Visegrád (+12 percent), the turnover of hotels increased to an extent that exceeded the national average compared to last year – the MTÜ announced, referring to the data of the National Tourist Information Center.
They added that the new conference venues and developments can further strengthen rural professional tourism
According to the latest international research, the demand for leisure activities and local gastronomic products is increasing during business trips. Hungary’s cultural heritage, quality wine and culinary offer, spas and adventure spas offer many quality experiences throughout the year for professional tourists who are open to recharging and spending their time actively, they wrote.
After the virus situation, hotels and hotel conference rooms are once again experiencing a renaissance among venues, and the role of sports venues is also increasing in value. This also favors destinations outside of Budapest, where quality accommodation and the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) infrastructure have expanded significantly in recent years. This year alone, 17 new hotels with more than 800 rooms were opened in the countryside, 10 of them top-class.
