MTÜ: HUF sixty million aid for the restoration of Hotel Silvanus
At the beginning of March, the top floor and roof structure of the Silvanus Hotel in Visegrád, one of the most visited hotels in the region, burned down. The restoration of the 4-star hotel, which suffered significant fire damage and employs more than 100 people, has begun, to which the Hungarian Tourist Agency (MTÜ) is contributing HUF 60 million.
The MTÜ emphasized in its statement sent to the MTI on Thursday that the reopening of the hotel, which provides 46 percent of Visegrád’s domestic accommodation turnover, is crucial from the perspective of the region due to the spillover economic effects as soon as possible. The restoration works are expected to be completed in the fall, they wrote.
It was reported that in recent years, the government has also contributed several times to ensure that businesses in trouble in the tourism sector receive government assistance, and that the recovery of the sector following the pandemic is as fast as possible.
They reminded us that during Covid, for example, the government helped the sector, which accounts for more than 10 percent of GDP, by compensating lost traffic and subsidizing wages. After the pandemic, it also supported the increase in competitiveness with, among other things, a six-point sector assistance package, which was supplemented by a significant energy efficiency improvement program.
