MTÜ: World Camping Day is celebrated for the first time, the number of guest nights in Hungarian campsites has increased significantly
For the first time this year, the UN tourism organization, UNWTO, announced the International World Camping Day, the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ) told MTI.
According to the announcement, the purpose of the call on June 29 is to point out that this tourism segment has changed from a cheap form of vacation to a prime space for outdoor experiences in recent years.
Last year, guests spent about 393 million nights in campsites in Europe, of which about 2 million in Hungary, they pointed out.
According to the MTÜ, almost 700,000 people decided to camp in Hungary last year, and half of the nearly two million guest nights they spent were domestic and foreign tourists.
Domestic guests spent an average of 2.5 nights in the campsites, while those from across the border spent slightly more, 3.2 nights, they added.
According to the MTÜ, people from abroad mainly came to the domestic campsites from Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria and the Netherlands.
