MTÜ: success in Debrecen and Zalakaros in this year’s European Flower Cities and Villages competition
Debrecen won silver and Zalakaros won gold at the 2024 Entente Florale Europe competition; the prize-giving gala of one of the most prestigious European evaluations of environmental beautification was held on September 7 in Székesfehérvár, the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ) informed MTI on Tuesday.
According to the information, a total of 11 settlements from 7 countries took part in this year’s European competition of flower towns and villages. In addition to Velenje in Slovenia, Csíkszereda in Romania, Farkasd in Slovakia, Carlow and Ballinahown in Ireland, Meinheim and Höxter in Germany, and Písek and Chorušice in the Czech Republic, our country was represented by the two main winners of Virágos Hungary 2022, Debrecen and Zalakaros.
During the evaluation, the jury primarily evaluated the activities of the settlements in green management, climate adaptation, environmental education and the involvement of the population – explained the MTÜ.
The results were announced on September 7 at the Sóstói Stadium in Székesfehérvár. About 160 city managers and professionals working in green space management from the competing settlements came to the event.
While the guests were able to discover Székesfehérvár, which previously won a gold rating and a special award for good practice, the interested public could get to know the traditions, attractions, and traditional foods and drinks of the settlements participating in the competition at the European Market held in Sósto – they wrote in the announcement.
