MTÜ: almost 800 thousand people participated in the St. Stephen’s Day celebrations in Budapest

According to mobile data, more than 798,000 people with mobile phones participated in the St. Stephen’s Day celebrations on the embankments of Budapest and the surrounding area – 12.5 percent more than last year – and the number of people arriving at the venue for the fireworks exceeded 450,000 – the Hungarian Tourist Agency (MTÜ) informed MTI on Friday.

According to the mobile data, 83 percent of the celebrants were Hungarians, which is a 14 percent increase compared to last year’s data. In addition to Budapest, the most people came from the Érd, Budakesz and Szigetszentmiklós districts – the announcement includes.

The almost 139,000 number of foreigners with mobile phones shows a 7 percent increase compared to St. Stephen’s Day in 2024 – they added.

The most important sending countries were Germany, Romania, Poland, Italy and Slovakia. According to cell phone data, 10 percent of foreign celebrants were German, 9 percent Romanian, and 7 percent Polish.

The number of people arriving for the evening fireworks – by mobile phone – was 125,000 more than in 2024. 80 percent of the visitors were Hungarian, joined by almost 89,000 foreign mobile phone owners from around 60 countries: The latter represents 27 percent more guests than the previous year.

Of the international tourists watching the fireworks on the quays, most came from Romania, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, and Italy.
