MTÜ: traffic similar to last year is expected at Lake Balaton in September
More than 425,000 reservations were received for accommodation in the Balaton tourist area for September. More than half of the bookings were registered in the four most popular settlements, Hévíz, Siófok, Balatonfüred and Zalakaros, mainly from domestic guests. The largest number of foreign visitors to Lake Balaton in the first autumn month continue to come from Germany, followed by Czech and Austrian guests – the Hungarian Tourist Agency (MTÜ) informed MTI on Friday.
According to the announcement, the most popular type of accommodation is the hotel, but more and more international guests are looking for holiday homes, boarding houses, as well as private and other accommodation. According to the data, compared to last September, the number of five-star hotel reservations increased by nearly 40 percent, which is also due to the expansion of capacity.
According to the data of the National Tourist Information Center, by September, 142,000 guests had booked a total of 428,000 nights in the Balaton tourist area. According to the registrations of the accommodation service providers, 71 percent of the reservations, i.e. more than 300,000, came from domestic guests, while another 125,000 nights were booked by foreign tourists.
More than half of the September bookings came to the four most popular settlements in the tourist area. Almost a fifth of the guests booked accommodation in Hévíz (18 percent), but Siófok (12 percent), Balatonfüred (12 percent) and Zalakaros (12 percent) were equally popular.
