MTÜ: Hungarian tourism can become the focus of international attention
The Hungarian EU presidency provides an excellent opportunity for Hungarian tourism to become the center of international attention and to present its developments to the EU member states – said the Hungarian Tourism Agency’s (MTÜ) CEO László Könnyid at the Europe-China Tourism Dialogue conference in Budapest on Friday.
The half-year period that started this week is a unique opportunity to promote domestic destinations, as well as to arouse the interest of guests coming from nearby sending markets, the head of the MTÜ believes, according to the announcement. They added that there was considerable professional interest in the Europe-China Tourism Dialogue conference organized with the cooperation of the agency and the Ministry of National Economy (NGM), which ends on Friday in Budapest.
On the occasion of the event, the Minister of National Economy emphasized that after the pandemic, Hungary has significantly boosted Chinese inbound traffic, compared to 2022, guests from the Far Eastern country spent almost three times more guest nights in Hungary. Márton Nagy expects that the momentum of tourism between the two countries will not decrease, so a further increase is expected this year. According to the Secretary General of the World Tourism Alliance, in addition to the price, safety is an increasingly important aspect for Chinese guests when they choose a foreign destination, and the President of the European Travel Commission spoke at the Budapest event about tourism not only as a means of economic development, but also as a means of peace. must be considered – they wrote.
