MSZÉSZ: the VAT on hotel rooms causes a competitive disadvantage for domestic tourism
According to the the view of the Hungarian Association of Hotels and Restaurants (MSZÉSZ); the 18 percent VAT on hotel rooms in Hungary is particularly detrimental to domestic tourism, compared to the VAT rate of some neighboring and competitor countries.
The organization in its Monday Communication draws attention to the fact that this key is 10 percent in Austria, while in the Czech Republic 8, in Poland, 9, in Romania 8.5, in Slovenia and even in the non-EU member Croatia it is 10 percent, but in countries that are playing a decisive role in the tourism industry it is much lower, than in Hungary. For example, 7 percent in Malta, 10 in Italy, 8 in Spain and 3.8 in Switzerland – reports MTI.
