The consumer protection authority tested a total of 72 products, including detergents, washing powders and washing capsules. Based on the tests, if companies have misleadingly indicated the ingredients on the product label, official procedures can be expected to be initiated.

The National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH) told MTI on Monday that their Food and Chemical Industry Laboratory compared 39 liquid detergents for colored textiles, 14 washing powders for colored textiles and 19 washing capsules based on various criteria.

They explained that the comparative tests covered, among other things, the content of anionic surfactants, soap-type surfactants and total salt-free surfactants.

They added that the tests also showed the proportion of surfactants that actually have an effective cleaning effect, i.e. how much of the detergent actually consists of cleaning components, rather than water or other auxiliary substances; the higher this value, the more concentrated and stronger the detergent.

They noted that the products tested had a fairly large variation in this regard: for example, in liquid detergents, the salt-free total surfactant content ranged between 3-43% by weight, in washing powders between 2-13% by weight, and in washing capsules between 3-82% by weight, so in this case it is more worthwhile to choose products with a higher number.

The studies also covered how many forints the cost of a wash corresponds to for a given product, according to the dosage recommended by the manufacturer: for liquid detergent, the cost of a wash (forints per dose) ranges between 29 and 244 forints, for washing powders between 43 and 198 forints, and for washing capsules between 56 and 324 forints, they said.
