Mol: the network of the new beverage packaging deposit return system is being developed
From the beginning of next year, it will be possible to return the packaging of all beverage products in glass, metal and plastic bottles with a redemption mark to approximately 2,000 redemption points, REpoints; the network will be continuously expanded with new connectors – Mol informed MTI on Monday.
According to the announcement, the essence of the mandatory redemption system for domestically marketed products with a redemption fee is that the buyer pays a uniform redemption fee of HUF 50 per bottle when selling all beverage products in glass, metal and plastic bottles, which he gets back after he has returned the bottle. This method is one of the most effective from an environmental point of view, because it motivates the consumer to return the bottle and its material can be recycled in the circular economy.
Mol emphasized: the goal is to recycle 90 percent of plastic and glass bottles and metal beverage cans within 3 years.
From January 1 of next year, bottles that were put on the market after January 1, 2024, have the redemption logo and a new bar code compared to the previous packaging can be exchanged.
Manufacturers must register bottles that comply with the new labeling provisions with MOHU Mol Hulladékfászágólzi Zrt. Product registration will start soon, and MOHU will keep the manufacturers informed about this process.
