MOHU: installation of the new beverage packaging return machines in stores has begun
The installation of the new drink packaging return machines is underway in food stores larger than 400 square meters, and more than a hundred of the smaller ones have already applied to join the system – said the CEO of MOHU Mol Hulladékfászállógi Zrt. at the company’s online background discussion on Tuesday.
Zsolt Pethő reminded that a new drink packaging return system will be introduced in Hungary from January 1st, all single-use glass, metal and plastic bottle drink packaging with a return mark will be returnable. At the time of purchase, the customer pays a uniform redemption fee of HUF 50 per bottle, which he receives back after returning the bottle.
The CEO said that approximately 3.3 billion beverage bottles can enter the new system in Hungary every year. Based on the Western European examples, it is clear that after the introduction of the redemption system, a collection and recycling rate of more than 90 percent can be achieved, he added.
