MOHU: kitchen food waste can also be disposed of at waste yards
In addition to the door-to-door collection of kitchen food waste, which was launched as a test, MOHU has also made it possible to drop off such materials at certain waste yards; the service is already available at 33 locations, and the number of affected waste yards is constantly expanding, the company told MTI on Tuesday.
Kitchen food waste can initially be dropped off mainly at waste yards in settlements where the test door-to-door collection is already in operation. The system will gradually expand based on the utilization of the waste yards.
Currently, food waste can be dropped off at 33 locations, in Budapest, Cegléd, Kecskemét, Szolnok, Székesfehérvár, Kaposvár, Tatabánya, Zalaegerszeg, Orosháza, Gyomaendrőd, Békéscsaba and Nagykanizsa
– they reported.
According to MOHU estimates, a person “produces” approximately 1 kilogram of kitchen green and food waste per week. The selective collection of such materials is in the common interest, as they become valuable secondary raw materials.
Biowaste can be used to produce a renewable energy source as biomethane, and as compost it provides a sustainable source of nutrients for agriculture – the company announced.
Kitchen food waste is delivered to waste yards in the same way as other categories. The waste must be transported to the site in its own container, and then placed in a zip-lock, odor-proof collection container.
