MNB: stable lending capacities, unchanged credit terms and low demand on the credit market
Stable lending capacities, unchanged credit terms and low demand characterized the credit market in the second quarter of this year based on the second quarter Lending Survey of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank (MNB).
According to the analysis published by the MNB on Thursday, the credit institutions as a whole left the conditions for business real estate and corporate loans unchanged, and they do not plan to change them in the next six months. In the corporate segment, the demand for loans continued to shift towards short-term and foreign currency loans, but some of the responding institutions expect a revival in the second half of the year for long-term loans as well. Within business real estate loans, the banks have only experienced increasing demand for the financing of logistics centers, and they expect this to continue in the future.
According to the central bank’s survey, the banks did not change the conditions of housing and consumer loans, while in the next six months they expected a tightening in the case of open-use mortgage loans. During the quarter, the responding institutions experienced a decrease in credit demand for housing loans, while an increase in demand for consumer loans, but for the second half of the year, some banks expect an increase in demand in both segments.
