MLSZKSZ: the price of goods transport and storage may increase by 20-25 percent in 2024
According to the forecast of the Association of Logistics Service Centers of Hungary (MLKSZKSZ), freight and logistics fees may increase in price by about 20-25 percent in 2024. The price increase is due to EU legal harmonization measures, environmental protection costs, and inflationary effects. From the beginning of next year, tolls that will rise significantly from the beginning of next year, the change in the fuel excise tax, as well as the expected double-digit wage increase in the sector will greatly increase the costs of logistics companies, which they are forced to include in their fees. At the same time, the decrease in energy prices can reduce warehouse logistics costs.
Costs affecting the logistics sector will increase significantly from the beginning of next year, which also affects transport and storage fees. From the first of January, the excise tax on fuels will increase by HUF 41 per liter, and road tolls for road freight will increase significantly, as well as the number of sections subject to tolls in Hungary. The reason behind the increase in taxes and fees is partly European Union law harmonization reasons, the member states are increasing the road user fees one by one, in Germany from 2024, for example, to twice the current level.
The Hungarian toll system, which previously consisted of several elements, is undergoing significant changes. According to the new system, the owners of goods transport vehicles pay the so-called external cost fee calculated after environmental and noise pollution, which varies depending on the type of road in the case of air and noise pollution, while the carbon dioxide emission will be a fixed fee per axle number and environmental protection category. In addition, all freight vehicles – according to vehicle categories – must still pay the infrastructure usage fee. In addition, in the new system, tolls may be changed several times a year. In addition, the number of sections subject to tolls will increase, the section of the M0 ring road between M5 and M1/M7 will also be tolled.
