Magazine: Bartender, a placebo with a bit of ice, please!
In 1918, when influenza was taking the lives of millions, in certain parts of the United States people believed that alcohol consumption protected them from the flu, so they started drinking heavily. Today some believe, and not without reason, that certain food products or alcoholic drinks are beneficial to health. Bartenders have tthe necessary knowledge to use beneficial cocktail base materials. Drop Off Service is a bar in Manhattan where they sell a cocktail named Flu Shot to prevent illness; this contains tequila, chilli, honey, garlic, ginger, orange and a few drops of Echinacea. It may not be medicine, but its effect is rather positive – not to mention the placebo effect! Well-known bartender Csaba Gulyás told our magazine that he had not seen these types of cocktails in Hungarian bars.
