What sort of customers are baby-boomers?
According to data provided by KSH, 37 percent of the Hungarian population is over 50 – what are their habits as consumers?
The truth about fifty-something agrgroups is that there are two main groups: those wih a moderate income and people who are still active and working. Three-thirds of those over 50 are still working, every second person out of 55-69 year olds are active and 15 percent of those between 60-64 years of age.
According to Consumer Sector-tracking, 51 percent of every-day products are bought by those over 50. In fact, this age-group is the biggest when it comes to buying pet-food (90 percent buys more petfood than the average), basic kitchen-ingedients like coffee mixes and salt – and traditional items like vinegar (66%) and soda-patron (76%).
On the other hand, they do definitely buy a smaller amount of modern items: frozen pizza (31%), cereals (21%) and ice tea, shampoo (36%), hair conditioner (34%).
The frequency of shopping is rather similar to the entirity of ther country they are living in, they do one big shopping once a month, 50-59 year-old citizens usually spend around 16 thousand HUF during these occassions.
