Deficit in retail
In terms of volume, retail sales were 5.6 percent lower in January 2010 than in the same period the previous year. Retail sales were up by 0.6 percent in January 2010,
compared to the previous month. According to KSH’s report, the domestic retail network and mail order companies generated sales of HUF 489 billion. Food and food type products represented 48percent of retail sales; the turnover of food stores decreased by 3.7 percent in terms of volume, compared to January 2009. Hypermarkets, supermarkets and small shops (which represent 91 percent of sales) sold 4 percent less in volume, compared with January 2009.
