According to European Commission data, the average price of white sugar in the EU in January 2026 was 516 euros/tonne, unchanged from the previous month. The European Union cannot publish the processing price of white sugar by member state for data protection reasons, so it creates three regional average prices from the data reported by the member states and publishes them.

In January, the average price of region 1 (Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Sweden, Slovakia) was 515 euros/tonne, down 2 percent from the previous month. The average price of the major producing countries in region 2 (France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium) was 511 euros/tonne, unchanged from the previous month. Region 3, which includes the southern countries (Bulgaria, Spain, Croatia, Italy, Portugal and Romania), achieved the highest average price, at 563 euros/tonne, which was 1 percent lower than the previous month.

Within the EU imports, sugar imports arriving under the duty-free EPA/EBA (Economic Partnership Agreements/”Everything but Arms!”) agreements amounted to 74 thousand tonnes, an increase of 26 percent compared to the previous year. Among the WTO quotas, the Balkan quota for the 2025/2026 marketing year was almost 2 percent as of March 2.
