Patterned glass mug recalled due to heavy metal leaching
Based on a notification received through the European Union’s Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed Safety (RASFF), lead and cadmium were measured in a glass mug originating from China. The product also arrived in Hungary through the Polish distributor LPP S.A. to the Sinsay stores operated by LPP Hungary Kft. – the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH) informed MTI on Tuesday.
According to the announcement, the consumer protection authority immediately contacted the company concerned (LPP Hungary), the company, in cooperation with the authority, took the necessary measures within its own competence, and ensured that the objected item on the recall from consumers. The authority will monitor the measures taken by the company and the further fate, destruction or transport of the recalled products.
The batch number of the glass mug with a pattern depicting a leaf and mushroom is 578ES-MLC-ONE, NKFH asks that anyone who has purchased and still owns the product with the above batch identifier should not use it any further.
According to the information, heavy metals can be naturally present in soil and water, but can also enter the soil and food during industrial activities. Some heavy metals can accumulate in the body and cause long-term damage to the nervous system, kidneys, and other organs, as well as increase the risk of cancer.
