According to data from the Central Statistical Office (KSH), in the second month of the year, consumer prices exceeded those of the previous year by an average of 1.4 percent, while food prices – excluding catering services – decreased by 3.2 percent. Within the product group, the price of margarine decreased by 32.3 percent, that of canned meat by 26.9 percent, that of butter and buttercream by 19.8 percent, that of potatoes by 19.7 percent, that of lard by 19.5 percent, that of dairy products (excluding cheese) by 18.8 percent, that of milk by 17 percent, and that of flour by 14.9 percent in February 2026.

Since the system was launched, it has been supplemented with several convenient functions that help with conscious planning and faster shopping. The site offers a multifunctional, freely composable, shareable shopping list, which not only allows you to compare the prices of individual products, but also allows you to rank individual stores based on the prices of personally compiled shopping lists. Using the map store filter function, customers can preset their favorite stores on the site, or filter the current, daily offers of stores located in their immediate vicinity, near their current location. 

The GVH previously determined that the effect of the Price Monitor has reduced the gross margin of retailers in the system on dairy products by approximately 10 percentage points. According to the calculations of the Makronóm Institute, the system saved Hungarian households nearly 20 billion forints in three months during the winter of 2023-24 through its price-reducing effects. Based on the Hungarian example, an online price comparison system was recently launched in Slovakia in the name of fighting inflation, and at the beginning of 2026, the launch of an online price monitoring system similar to the Hungarian one was also proposed in Austria.
