The “Mindentbelehely” community space was inaugurated on May 10th in Kálvária Square in Józsefváros, Budapest. The project, implemented as part of the OFF-Biennale Budapest 2025, aims to transform the area that previously functioned as a gateway into a vibrant, community meeting place. Praktiker, which regularly supports local communities, also participated in the implementation of the project.

An installation that functions as both a community space and a meeting place was inaugurated on May 10th in Kálvária Square in Józsefváros, which was created by the Spanish architectural and activist group Recetas Urbanas in cooperation with local civil society organizations and residents. Praktiker supported the project, which is being implemented as part of the 10th anniversary of the OFF-Biennale contemporary art initiative and independent platform, with a gift voucher worth 1 million forints, thus expressing its commitment to supporting local communities. The organizers used the money for the wood, tools, and materials needed to build the installation. Regarding the cooperation, Ádám Sommer, Director of Marketing and Online Services at Praktiker, said: the Hungarian-owned DIY chain with a nationwide network regularly offers support to institutions that are important in the lives of local communities, including hospital departments and foundations. He added: Praktiker wants to help local communities take pride in their environment with various tools, expert support and attention. The Józsefváros initiative also reflects this aspiration: this time, a part of Kálvária Square, currently used mainly as a passageway, will be given the chance to become a real community space.

During the Kálvária Square project, activists built two pavilions made of wood and recycled plastic, which offer seating and shade for those resting in the square, and can also serve as a venue for community programs. The construction took place between April 26 and May 9, partly in a community workshop on Baross Street and partly on site.

With the opening of the “Mindentbelehely”, Kálvária Square will have the opportunity to become one of the district’s community meeting places. The location will welcome visitors with various community programs and events until August 31st.
