Everyone was surprised by the big traffic jams due to the tourists in the neighborhood
The traffic jams and congestion on Croatian highways already in June surprised the experts, who say that there are several reasons for this, one of which is the increase in car traffic, the Croatian daily Jutarnji List wrote on Tuesday.
According to available data, 586,917 more vehicles used the country’s highways this June than last June. In the first six months of this year, 44,480,545 vehicles were registered, which is 4.3 million more than in the first six months of last year.
According to experts speaking to the newspaper, several factors influenced such a large increase in traffic on the highways. Croatia’s accession to Schengen, the introduction of the euro, the war in the Middle East and the heat in Greece, as well as forest fires, were mentioned.
Because of all this, Croatia has become a popular car destination for tourists, this is especially true for the Germans, who are planning shorter trips to the coast this year compared to previous years – they said, noting that such a large influx of vehicles causes serious traffic jams and congestion on the highways.
