2024 was the most successful tourism year ever in Romania, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) announced on Wednesday.
Last year, 14,263 million tourists spent at least one night in official accommodation, 4.5 percent more than a year earlier.
The counties of Bucharest (1.998 million people), Constanța (1.754 million people) and Brașov (1.508 million) were visited by the most people last year.
The number of domestic guests increased by 2.9 percent to 11,878 million, while that of foreigners increased by 13.5 percent to 2,384 million.
The most foreign tourists came from Germany (2,403 million), Italy (2,134 million) and Israel (1,514 million). 1,140 million people from Hungary visited Romania in 2024, the seventh highest number.
The number of guest nights increased by 3.5 percent to 30,191 million. The number of guest nights by domestic tourists increased by 2.2 percent to 25,255 million, and that by foreign tourists by 10.6 percent to 4,936 million.
The occupancy rate of tourist accommodation facilities was 30.9 percent, an increase of 0.2 percentage points compared to the previous year.
