Millions of people are buying ice cream from Tesco
Hungarians buy millions of ice creams in Tesco stores during the summer season. Ice cream is in short supply, especially in Budapest and the northwest, with customers choosing the most from stick and funnel packages and primarily looking for chocolate flavors. According to Tesco, Minecraft ice cream will be the children’s favorite this year, which will be available in the chain’s stores for the first time this season.
According to Tesco’s customer data, ice cream purchases spike during two periods of the year. At Christmas, when mainly dessert-type ice creams are sold (e.g. Vienetta), and during the summer months, when ice cream in all forms is sold in the chain’s stores by the millions. After ice cream purchases increased by 30% last season, the chain is preparing for this year with an increased stock of approximately 7.5 million ice creams. Among the novelties, in addition to Minecraft ice cream, popular brands are also available in new packaging for the season, such as the 200 ml Carte D’Or mini and the 100 ml Ben&Jerry’s, but Tesco is also expanding its own brand offering. “Ice cream connoisseurs” can also choose from the Tesco Finest ice creams in sticks, including Italian pistachio covered in Belgian chocolate, salted caramel, white chocolate berry fruit and Bourbon vanilla ice creams.
Interestingly, most of the cooling sweets are sold in stick and funnel forms, followed by boxed and finally multipack packaging. If we look at the national data, Tesco sells the most ice cream in its Budapest and northwestern stores, but its southeast and southwest stores are not far behind, and Tescos around Lake Balaton are also performing strongly this season.
As for customers, according to Tesco data, customers love ice cream in all situations, but families with children between the ages of 30 and 50 buy the most, followed by those who do not have children yet or whose children have already moved away. In terms of flavors, according to the chain, plain chocolate, triple chocolate, chocolate-banana, vanilla and almond flavors are the ones that sell the most.
Tesco’s ice cream experts advise that you time your ice cream purchase towards the end of your shopping trip so that it is exposed to heat for as little time as possible, and that you should also bring a cooler bag and ice packs with you when you go shopping so that it doesn’t melt in the heat of the summer by the time you get home.
