Millions can make decisions about millions with just one move at Tesco
Millions of people once again have millions of forints and the fate of local residents in their hands, which they can decide by voting in Tesco stores. The voting phase of the supermarket chain’s “You choose, we help” community program started on July 15. Tesco customers can decide which of the shortlisted applicants will receive support from the company for the implementation of its initiative to help local communities by placing tokens in the stores’ collection boxes.
With their participation until August 11, a total of HUF 39 million will go to more than 150 local organizations in 53 districts across the country. In each district, the organization with the most votes receives HUF 400,000, the second receives HUF 200,000, and the third receives HUF 100,000. In addition, the department store chain rewards five organizations that advance with a special award of HUF 400,000 each in recognition of their creative and innovative applications. In the 15 rounds of the program, which has been running since 2016, Tesco has provided a total of nearly HUF 570 million in funding to more than 2,200 local initiatives.
A total of more than 300 applications were received for Tesco’s 15th community building tender. The 152 projects that will receive a total of HUF 38,400,000 in national support were selected from among the application materials by independent experts of the Effekteam Association, taking professional aspects into account. The fate of almost HUF 37 million of this will be decided by the votes of Tesco customers, who will receive a token after every purchase, regardless of the amount, between July 15 and August 11, with which they can cast their vote for one of the applications in the given district at the token collection points posted in the stores. Of these, at the end of the voting period, the initiative that received the most tokens per district will receive HUF 400,000, the second-placed initiative will receive HUF 200,000, and the third-placed initiative will receive HUF 100,000 support from Tesco to implement its project.
