Why is chocolate in Dubai so expensive? It’s revealed!
In recent months, Hungary has also caught the Dubai chocolate fever, which has garnered worldwide attention. But why is it considered a luxury product, and why is it so expensive?
The Secret of Flavors and Quality
Dubai chocolate is one of the most renowned luxury treats from the United Arab Emirates. Its production involves a meticulously planned process, relying on premium ingredients and stunning packaging. These chocolates often contain edible gold, further enhancing their exclusivity.
The Original Flavors
The FIX-branded Dubai chocolate is currently available in six core flavors and one limited edition:
- Cereously Chewsy: chewy, sticky granola
- Can’t Get Knafeh of It: inspired by the Middle Eastern dessert, kunafa
- Baklawa II The Future: pistachio and kadayif-infused
- Mind Your Own Buiscoff: creamy biscuit flavor
- Butter To Be Safe Than Salty: nutty flavor
- Pick Up A Pretzel: crispy with salted pretzel pieces
- Piece of Cake (limited edition): reminiscent of a slice of cake
These products are exclusively available in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, sold through local food delivery services like Deliveroo. A bar of chocolate costs €16, approximately 6557 HUF.
Breaking into the Hungarian Market
The Dubai chocolate craze has not left Hungarian retailers untouched. Aldi began selling the luxury treat on December 15, while Lidl and Auchan introduced it on December 12. Prices are as follows:
- Aldi: 30g bar for 499 HUF, 90g chocolate for 1499 HUF
- Lidl and Auchan: 100g chocolate for 2499 HUF
Purchases are limited to 2-3 items per customer.
Why Is It So Expensive?
The high price of Dubai chocolate is justified by its premium ingredients. One of the key components, pistachios, is particularly costly. A kilogram of raw, shelled pistachios exceeds 13,000 HUF in price. This is due to pistachio trees bearing fruit only every 2-3 years, their labor-intensive harvesting, and the complexity of transportation and storage. Additionally, sesame paste (tahini), kadayif dough, and edible gold contribute to the luxurious nature of the treat.
How to Enjoy Dubai Chocolate
Sarah Hamouda, the creator of the chocolate, suggests savoring it slowly to fully appreciate the unique flavors of the carefully selected ingredients. This luxury treat is not just a delicacy but a complete sensory experience.
