We eat far less fish than the EU average
This year’s fish production will be 21 to 22 thousand tons in Hungary, about 15 percent less than the average, mainly due to the badweather – said Németh István, the president of Hungarian Fish Producers and Fisheries Water Utilizing Association (Mahal), to MTI.
The expert said: In Hungary, a person consumes about an average of 4.2 kilograms of fish per year. Half of the domestic consumption are from domestically produced fishes. In Hungary people eat much less fish, than in other European Union countries. The aim of the fish producers is to increase consumption, and within a few years, Hungarian consumption to be risen to an annual 6 kilograms per capita – reports MTI.
