What is much higher than the MOL tower? The amount of paper saved by Tesco from now on!

From July 15, 2024, the General Terms and Conditions of the Tesco Home service will change. As part of this, online customers will no longer receive a printed delivery note, it will only be sent electronically by the supermarket chain. In this way, Tesco uses at least 2.1 million fewer sheets of paper each year.

Last year, Tesco fulfilled more than 850,000 orders from Otthon, and delivered an average of 2-3 printed delivery notes to customers with their order per purchase. However, in mid-July, the supermarket chain takes another big step towards greening and stops printing delivery notes. From now on, users will only receive it electronically to the e-mail address registered in the service. The amount of paper saved is thus about 2.1 million A4 sheets of paper, which is equivalent to about 10.5 tons, and 250 trees would be cut down because of it. This amount of paper stacked on top of each other would be 214 meters high – for comparison, the MOL tower in Budapest is “only” 143 meters tall.

This is not the first environmentally friendly measure for the Tesco Home service. The supermarket chain removed the bags from delivery a few years ago. Unless the customer requests otherwise or the protection of the product does not require it, the suppliers take out the orders without paper and plastic bags, and the customers unpack them in their homes from reusable and recyclable boxes. In Budapest, Tesco also delivers to homes with electric delivery vans.

Tesco launched its online food delivery service more than 10 years ago, which is now available to 2.7 million households in more than 870 settlements across the country. Customers can order even with same-day delivery, and Tesco Online Club members can order 4 weeks in advance. Moreover, through the Foodora and Wolt partnerships, Tesco can fulfill smaller orders with a delivery time of 30 minutes. The good news for holidaymakers is that Tesco Otthon also covers the Balaton area: delivery cars leave from Tapolca, Veszprém and Siófok for 70,000 addresses in 73 settlements. In addition, orders from Balaton are delivered free of charge by Tesco until September 1 for orders over HUF 20,000.
