Inflation moderated in the euro zone and the EU in November
Inflation decreased in the Eurozone and the European Union in November, according to the final data published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, on Tuesday.
In the euro area, the annual consumer price index was 2.4 percent in November after 2.9 percent in October. In the European Union, consumer price growth slowed to 3.1 percent from 3.6 percent in October.
A monthly price decrease of 0.6 percent in the euro area and 0.4 percent in the EU was recorded in November.
In the euro area, energy prices fell the most year-on-year in November, by 11.5 percent after the 11.2 percent decrease in October. The biggest price increase was still among food, alcoholic beverages and tobacco products, 6.9 percent in November after 7.4 percent in October.
Calculated without energy prices, annual inflation in the euro area was 4.3 percent in November, after 4.9 percent in October.
Excluding the prices of energy, food and leisure items, the annual price increase (core inflation) decreased to 3.6 percent in November from 4.2 percent in October.
