Milestone at Wizz Air: The airline has carried 500 million passengers since 2004
Wizz Air has reached 500 million passengers: the airline announced that it has carried half a billion passengers since its launch in 2004. The company stressed that the number is “more than a symbolic milestone” and, according to Wizz Air, is a good indication of the company’s role in making air travel more accessible to a wider range of people.
According to the statement, the growth rate is also telling: Wizz Air reached its first 100 million passengers in 11 years, then doubled it in four years, and then expanded its total passenger number from 200 million to 300 million in three years – including the COVID period. It has carried another 200 million passengers in the last three years, thus reaching 500 million in a total of 22 years.
CEO József Váradi said in the statement: the company expanded faster than the market average, strengthened its network and bases, achieved record traffic, and made significant investments – while many of the airlines founded in the early 2000s have already disappeared from the market.
