In terms of volume pálinka, in value bitters lead
Spirit retail sales are stable in terms of value, surpassing HUF 73 billion in October 2008- September 2009, just like a year earlier. However, Nielsen registered a 5 percent decline in volume sales. The economic crisis made consumers cut down on buying excise goods. As for volume sales, pálinka is on top of the list, followed by bitter and brandy. In terms of value, bitter is the number one and pálinka is the runner-up, followed by vodka. In August-September, volume weighted average prices were up by 14 percent in the whisky category, by 10 percent among pálinkas and by 6 percent among bitters.
