Pig population is on nadir
The domestic pig population is on the level of the 1940s and the post-war times – was said at the event of the K&H and the Agrár Európa Kft.
In order to reach more efficient production, the sectoral integration would be needed to increase. It should also be decided whether we want to connect more fully to international production and trade rather than self-sufficiency.
In 2012, pork was a strategy that was made to increase the pig population from 3 million pigs to 6 million, but this number has still not been achieved since the previous population of 3.2 million, decreased to 2.8 million in 2012, and since then, increased only by a few ten thousands – Tresó István, the Managing Director of the K&H’s Agricultural Business Branch said.
